From Passion to Profession

Every day I wake up excited to go to work, and that's not something everyone can say. As a dermal therapist, I've found a career that combines my passion for skincare, my desire to help people, and the science I love.
When I decided to pursue this career, it wasn't a sudden revelation. It was a gradual awakening to something I genuinely care about. My journey began with a simple question: What do I want to spend my time doing?
My path to dermal therapy wasn't just about skincare; it was deeply personal. Having struggled with my own health issues that manifested directly on my skin, I dealt with chronic inflammation, hormonal imbalances, and digestive problems that left my complexion congested, inflamed, and frustratingly unpredictable. This also affected my mental health and led me to deep dive into the root causes and how they could be addressed.
No amount of topical products could fix what was happening internally. That's when my perspective shifted entirely. I realised that healthy skin doesn't start in a jar or on a treatment bed. Healthy skin, and more importantly, a healthy mind, starts within.
This experience transformed my understanding of skin health and taught me that true skin transformation requires addressing the whole person holistically: Nutrition, stress management, sleep quality, hydration, gut health, and emotional wellbeing.
By healing my own body from the inside out, I watched my skin and general wellbeing transform in ways I never thought possible. Now, I bring this holistic philosophy to every client I work with. I don't just treat the skin; I educate my clients on how their lifestyle choices, diet, stress levels, and overall health can impact their complexion. This personal journey through health challenges has made me a more empathetic, knowledgeable, and effective dermal therapist. It's taught me that the most beautiful skin comes from a healthy body and a healthy mind, and I'm passionate about helping others discover that truth for themselves.
I've always believed in the connection between skin and confidence, and that skin is more than just the surface we see in the mirror. It's a reflection of our health, our self-care practices, and sometimes, our inner struggles. Watching someone's face light up after a treatment, or realising that someone finally understands their skin type, their journey, and their struggles, has become incredibly rewarding to me.
The skincare industry is saturated with misinformation, heavily influenced through social media. Too many people are using products that damage their skin or chasing trends that don't address their real concerns. As a dermal therapist, I get to educate clients on what their skin actually needs, simplify complex skincare ingredients and routines, customise treatments for individual skin concerns, and create lasting change through professional treatments and at-home care.
As a self-confessed skin nerd, I love that dermal therapy blends art and science. Understanding skin biology, how the epidermis renews itself, how different ingredients interact with the skin barrier, and why certain conditions develop gives me the tools to help people effectively. It's not guesswork; it's evidence-based care.
I'm always learning. Skincare is a constantly evolving field, with new technologies, ingredients, and research emerging all the time. I love that I'm never done learning. Staying curious means my clients receive the best care I can offer.
I'm passionate about helping people understand their skin. Not every client needs a long list of products or treatments, or a 16-step at-home skincare regime. Often, the most valuable thing I can do is cut through the noise, explain what their skin needs, and give them simple, honest advice. Education is just as important as treatment, and achieving the best results often requires a multifaceted approach.
Nothing beats seeing a client's skin transform over time. Whether it's watching stubborn acne finally clear up, seeing fine lines soften, or helping someone with sensitive skin feel comfortable in their own skin again, these victories are mine too. I've had clients cry with joy after treatments or tell me they feel confident enough to go makeup-free for the first time in years.
Ultimately, I chose this career because I want to make a tangible difference in people's lives. Whether someone's dealing with acne, ageing concerns, sensitivity, or simply wants to maintain their skin's health, I'm here to guide them towards their best skin and their best self.
I'm privileged to have helped people feel better, look after themselves, and walk out a little lighter than they walked in. Everyone deserves to feel good in their skin.
What I'm most proud of is that my dedication to this craft has been recognised by the industry. I was honoured to win Skin Therapist of the Year in 2025, an achievement that meant the world to me. Not only because it validated my hard work, but because it reflected the trust my clients place in me and my commitment to excellence. The following year, I placed in the top three again, which solidified for me that this wasn't a one-time success. It's a reflection of my continuous dedication to staying at the forefront of dermal therapy, investing in my education, and always putting my clients' results first.
These achievements have motivated me to keep pushing boundaries, perfecting my craft, and raising the bar for myself and the industry.
The skincare and wellness community is supportive and collaborative. I get to network with other professionals, attend educational workshops, and be part of a field that's always evolving. The sense of belonging to something larger than myself is special, and industry recognition has connected me with even more inspiring professionals.
This career has taught me patience, active listening, problem-solving, and business skills. I've grown not just as a therapist but as a person.
The challenges I've faced have pushed me to become better at what I do, and the recognition I've received has reinforced the importance of continuous growth.
I love being a dermal therapist because it ticks every box for me: it's meaningful, it's scientific, it's creative, and it genuinely helps people. Every day, I get to do something I'm passionate about while making a real difference in someone's life.
